Since yearly 1990s Nizhny Novgorod technical university by R.E.Alexeev has been accepting overseas students. Later in 2007 it set up a Center of foreign students' education which also runs preparatory courses for overseas students. University entrants enjoy an intensive course of the Russian language as well as brief introductory classes in mathematics and physics, both running for one academic year. Admission to the university is based on an applicant's academic success at the graduate exams which he takes at the end of the preparatory courses.

First-year international students study in small-size groups on their own individual curriculums. From the second year students enjoy studies with russian students in mixed groups. Classes in Russian are provided all through their staying with the university.

Holding a bachelor degree in a relevant specialty makes it possible to join a master course.

In 2007-2008 the university enjoys a student community from 14 countries: China, Pakistan, Greece, Syria, Yemen, Tunis, Morocco, Cameroon, Congo, Namibia, Zambia, Tanzania, Jordan, Colombia.

The most preferred specialties for international students are listed in the table:
    • Automation of technological processes and productions
    • Dynamics and reliability of machines
    • Electric drive and automatic equipment of full-scale plants and engineering systems
    • Nuclear power plants
    • Economics and management in industry (according to its type)
    • Public relations
    • Material studies in mechanical engineering
    • Infomation systems and technologies

The cultural life for overseas students is rich: excursions over the city, Days of foreign languages, visits to a theatre.

Apart from having a wide range of state-of-the-art sporting equipment the university invites to play football and basketball in a well-equipped gym.

Preparatory courses start on the 1st October while all other years start on the 1st September.
